What the Hell is ATT thinking. I have had our New DSL connection for about a week now. I kept noticing little strange things; the middle of a podcast would die right in the middle as the download in Google reader wasn't allowed to finish getting the entire file, or Major downloads that take a matter of time some our being reset for what I could tell was somewhere around 7 minutes. So I am mucking about in the network settings of my Main DD-Wrt Router and Noticed that my public IP had changed. Which is nothing out of the normal, most DSL modems are switching out their IP to release them to other users, or they are rotating them for security. I seemed to mucking for a time, as I was in there long enough to notice my Public IP change three times.
My Modem was set to refresh it's Public IP address every 10 Minutes. I'm sorry that is far to short of a lease time for my ONLINE LIFE.
Skype uses my Public IP to route all my inbound calls to me, so I kinda rely on that public facing ip to be a little more stable than a narrow ten minute window.
As for other nefarious reasons that I would want my public facing IP to remain someone consistant - where will they know where to send those big files?
Someday Maybe my HDR's will be this nice.
